Glass was first discovered around 5000 BC. C. For centuries, individual production was the norm, and it was only in the 20th century that glass production became industrialized and mass-produced. There was still one major setback: the glass had to be ground and polished on both sides to achieve the desired quality, a very time-consuming and expensive process.
